Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has warned that his defenders need to be ‘shrewd’ against Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski in tonight’s Champions League clash at the Emirates Stadium.

The game is vital for the Gunners, as the side from north London have lost their opening two group games in surprising circumstances, but have hot form in the Premier League.

Bayern’s star striker Lewandowski has 22 times in 16 appearances for Bayern and Germany this season and is in top form. The Polish international will be difficult to stop and Wenger has warned that his defenders cannot afford to lose concentration with the striker around.

Speaking prior to the Champions League clash Wenger said: “First the best to combat him is for us to have the ball, and after that you have to be shrewd with him,”

“Inside the box he is outstanding, because his technique, his finishing, his movement inside the box, that is where we need the experience of Mertesacker and Koscielny. That’s because that will be one of the important things on the night.”

Anything but a win would make qualification for the knockout stages very difficult for the Gunners, especially with a trip to the Allianz Arena on the horizon for the reverse fixture.

Can Arsenal stop Bayern hot shot Robert Lewandowski?
