Norwich City will be playing Premier League football next season after beating Middlesbrough 2-0 in the Championship play-off at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

Goals in the first 15 minutes from Cameron Jerome and Nathan Redmond were enough for the Canaries to claim victory and a place in the Premier League for next season.

The man who has masterminded the promotion is 33-year-old Scot Alex Neil, who only arrived in East Anglia in January.

The former Hamilton Academicals boss took the Canaries from 12th in the Championship table to finish third in the league, which then of course earned them a place in the play-offs.

Norwich under Neil had the best win percentage in the Championship and the Scot has become a Canaries hero in a very short space of time.

There are echoes of another Scot who was successful with the club, Paul Lambert. However, Neil has achieved promotion at an even younger age and seems to be very much his own man.

He was a shock appointment when Neil Adams departed. It turned out to be an inspired decision by the Norwich board, who had obviously seen potential in the rookie boss.

Alex Neil, who has been a manager just over two years, achieved promotion to the SPL with Accies and now achieved promotion to the English top-flight with the Canaries.

The former-Barnsley midfielder has enjoyed an incredible rise in just two years from the Scottish second tier to being a Premier League boss.

A lot of top-flight fans will know very little about the young Scottish boss, but that is sure to change in the next few years, as Alex Neil follows in the long tradition of managers from Scotland managing clubs in the English top-flight.

Can Alex Neil keep Norwich in the Premier League next season?
