It seems that QPR striker Charlie Austin could be heading back to the Premier League in the near future.

Some bookmakers have even stopped taking bets on the striker joining Steve McClaren’s Newcastle for the new season.

Despite QPR finishing bottom of the Premier League and being relegated last season, Austin still managed to score 18 goals in his debut campaign in the English top-flight. His good form recently earned the 26-year-old a first call-up to the England squad.

Newcastle boss McClaren has already stated that he will be making four or five big signings this summer.

However the only signing the Magpies have secured so far is that of Dutch international midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who joined from Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven.

The Magpies endured a difficult season in the last campaign and their fans are in need of a major lift in spirits. Owner Mike Ashley has promised transfer funds and Austin seems like he is a Toon idol in the making.

He is big, strong and not scared off a battle, all qualities Newcastle fans seem to love in their number nines. The striker has also been linked with the likes of Chelsea and West Ham, but it is Newcastle who appears to be winning the race at present.

For the mooted fee there are very few players out there that will give a team the same goal return as Charlie Austin.

It is just a surprise that he has not being snapped-up by a team who finished higher in the Premier League last season, but could be a fantastic signing for the Magpies.

Is Newcastle the right move for Charlie Austin?
