According to Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas the reigning champions can still regain their Premier League crown, despite the fact that the Blues currently lay 16th in the top-flight table, and ten points behind current league leaders Manchester City.
Fabregas is confident in his team’s ability to recover that deficit though.
He told Sky Sports: “I still believe we can win the league. It’s not going to be easy but a 10-point gap at this stage of the season is not impossible. Last season we took 22 points from our first eight games but this time every team has lost at least one.
“Manchester City lost to West Ham and Tottenham when no one expected it, Manchester United and Arsenal have also dropped points. No one at Chelsea is happy with our current position but I would prefer to be here now than at the end of the season.
“It’s not how we start the campaign, it’s where we finish it. There is still almost 80 per cent of the season to go so we have more than enough time to recover. But we need to start that recovery this weekend.”
Chelsea are in dire need of a victory this weekend, as the reigning champions have won just two of their top-flight games this season, and have made their worse start to a campaign in over 25 years.
A number of players, plus boss Jose Mourinho have come in for heavy criticism this season, but the Blues squad has the quality to turn things around this season. However, even at this early stage of the campaign a title triumph looks unlikely.
Can Chelsea still win the Premier League title?
