According to the Daily Express, Chelsea are set to make a £40million move to sign Atletico Madrid and France forward Antoine Griezmann in January to solve their goal scoring problems.
The 24-year-old has impressed with Atleti since his 2014 £25million move from Real Sociedad, having scored eight goals in all competitions this season. Last season the French star scored 22 goals.
Griezmann was on Chelsea summer wish list, but the Blues failed to make a move for the highly-rated star. Under-pressure Blues boss Jose Mourinho now looks set to renew his interest in Griezmann in January.
Chelsea’s main striker Diego Costa has struggled for form this season, while the likes of Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy have seen limited playing time because Costa’s presence at the club.
Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea are in a desperate situation, currently sitting 16th in the Premier League table and are massively in need of a boost.
Mourinho’s future as Blues boss has been brought into focus with the team’s terrible start, but signing Griezmann may just inject fresh impetus into the Chelsea attack.
At the moment the Blues will have to make do with the ailing Costa and hope he comes good in the coming weeks and months.
