Everton centre-back John Stones has impressed this season and is being linked with Chelsea

According to the Daily Mail, Premier League champions Chelsea are keeping tabs on Everton defensive duo John Stones and Seamus Coleman ahead of the summer transfer window opening in July.

Stones has enjoyed a fine season at the heart of the Everton defence and has even broke into the England set-up.

The 20-year-old is now regarded as one of the brightest young English defenders in the top-flight.

The youngster arrived at Everton back in 2013 from Barnsley for £3million and could turn out to be a bargain buy for the Toffees. Stones had previously played more of his football as a right-back, but looks a far more assured player in the centre of defence.

The youngster spent a spell on the sidelines through injury earlier in the season and Roberto Martinez’s side looked notably less solid at the back. The Toffees have looked far more secure in defence since his return to action.

Stones would face a big dilemma if the Blues did come in with an offer for his services. The youngster would know that Chelsea have an already strong defence and his chances of first team football would likely to be very limited. However at Everton he could continue to develop and gain further first team experience.

Chelsea are also reportedly keeping tabs on Coleman, who is one of the most consistent right-backs in the Premier League. The Republic of Ireland international was another bargain buy, as he cost the Toffees just £60,000 when he arrived from Sligo Rovers in 2009.

Everton boss Martinez has stated that he does not want any of his top players to leave this summer and both players would fit into that category.

Will Chelsea sign Stones or Coleman this summer?
