According the Daily Express, Chelsea could be set for make a shock £14million move for Barcelona full-back Dani Alves in the January transfer window.
The experienced Brazilian international signed a new deal with the European champions in the summer, after looking set to leave Catalonia at the end of his deal.
The likes of big spending French outfit PSG and Premier League Manchester United were both linked with summer moves for the 32-year-old, who was out-of-contract.
The signing of a new two-year deal looked likely to bring an end to speculation over Alves’ future, but it seems it has not.
Chelsea have started the season in unconvincing fashion, losing three out of their six Premier League games so far, and Serbian full-back Branislav Ivanovic has been one of the teams poorer performers this season.
The 31-year-old’s under-par performances have led to calls for Blues boss Jose Mourinho to drop the big defender. According to Brazilian news outlet Sambafoot, it is Alves that is being lined-up to replace the Serbian at right-back in January.
The signing would likely raise eyebrows amongst Blues supporters considering Alves’ age and the fact that the champions already have a right-back Cesar Azpilicueta in their squad, but the Spaniard is currently playing at left-back for the Blues.
