Crystal Palace turned party poopers as they defeated Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday in Steven Gerrard’s last ever home appearance.

The home side actually drew first blood and took the lead on 26 minutes.

Former-Liverpool defender Martin Kelly attempted to pass the ball to centre-back Scot Dann, but instead found Reds midfielder Adam Lallana who fired high into the top corner of the net.

Palace then took control of the game. Joe Ledley, Jason Puncheon and Chung-Yong Lee all missed good opportunities to level the scores.

However, Palace did finally equalise on 43 minutes. Yannick Bolasie was fouled by Emre Can and Jason Puncheon found the bottom corner of the net with the resulting free-kick.

Palace continued to dominate and on the hour mark took the lead for the first time in the match, after Liverpool missed chances through Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson.

Bolasie was involved again, as the wingers cross found Wilfried Zaha, who found the net with a scuffed effort.

Six minutes later Bolasie saw an effort from 15 yards hit the bar. The Reds came into the game slightly with Gerrard and Henderson putting efforts wide of the Palace goal.

However it was Palace who scored the fourth goal of the game in stoppage-time. Lucas Leiva was adjudged to have brought down Zaha in the penalty area.

Palace’s top scorer Glenn Murray stepped-up and saw his spot-kick saved by Simon Mignolet, but the experienced striker scored with the rebound.

Palace’s impressive display will be rather overshadowed by Gerrard’s departure and his last appearance at Anfield.

However, Alan Pardew’s side will be pleased with another accomplished performance on the road.

What can Crystal Palace achieve next season?
