Chelsea striker Diego Costa and Arsenal centre-back Gabriel have been charged with violent conduct and improper conduct respectively by the FA for their behaviour in Saturday’s game at Stamford Bridge.

Costa has received his charge for a clash with Arsenal centre-back Laurent Koscielny, rather than his clash with Gabriel, while the Brazilian has been charged due to his reaction to being sent-off for a kick-out at Costa.

Costa now faces a three-game ban, while Arsenal has already revealed that they will be appealing against Gabriel’s red card and subsequent three-man ban.

Diego Costa has come in for fierce criticism for his behaviour during the 2-0 victory over Arsenal. Gunners fans were so infuriated by referee Mike Dean’s decision not to dismiss the striker, that they started an online petition to prevent Dean from refereeing any future Arsenal games.

It is not the first time that Costa has got himself in hot water with the FA, as last season he received a retrospective ban following an incident against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup last season.

Chelsea has until 6PM today to appeal the decision and subsequent ban, but the Blues are unlikely to appeal the decision.

Were the FA right to charge Diego Costa with violent conduct?
