Premier League Tottenham have released Togo international striker Emmanuel Adebayor from his contract by mutual consent.

The 31-year-old’s contract with the north London club was due to expire next summer. However, the two parties have now come to an agreement to end his deal early.

The experienced striker released which read: “I can confirm that I have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to terminate my contract.

“I wish to thank the club and the fans for my time there and I wish them well for the forthcoming season.”

Adebayor was linked with summer moves to both Aston Villa and West Ham in the summer, but a move did not materialise.

The former-Arsenal striker moved to Spurs in season 2011/2012 initially on-loan from Manchester City and scored 18 Premier League goals in his debut campaign in north London. His scoring record led to a permanent move to White Hart Lane.

Adebayor struggled to get into the Spurs team last season, making just 17 appearances in all competitions and scoring twice.

It became clear that Adebayor was not in Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino’s plans when he was excluded from both the Premier League and Europa League squads.

Despite his contract being terminated the striker will not be able to move elsewhere until the January transfer window, as he was registered as a Spurs player before the window shut.

Will Emmanuel Adebayor remain in the Premier League?
