Bayern Munich trounced Arsenal 5-1 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night in the Champions League. The victory will have sent out shock waves throughout Europe.
It was not the fact that Bayern won by such a margin, more the fact that the Bavarians claimed a victory over such good opposition with such ease.
Granted Arsenal were without ten first team players, but still the performance was impressive. At the heart of the victory was Germany international Thomas Muller and red hot Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.
However, the true creator of the win was Spanish midfielder Thiago, who controlled the tempo of the game from his central midfield role. The former-Barcelona star can do everything and the 24-year-old finally looks set to fulfil his potential in Bavaria.
Bayern pulled-off the win without the injured Mario Gotze and Franck Ribery. Dutch winger Arjen Robben came off the bench and scored within a minute of his entrance to the field. The Bavarians could even afford to leave Chilean star Arturo Vidal on the bench until 20 minutes from the end.
The strength of the Bayern Munich squad is frightening. Their form this season has been exceptional, with the exception of that 2-0 defeat against Arsenal a few weeks ago.
Bayern Munich has been a major player the Champions League for nearly a decade and they will certainly be a stiff opponent to any opposition in the last 16 of the competition.
