It may only be three games into the Premier League campaign, but already Manchester City look to be in ominous form.

The Citizens claimed a 2-0 victory at Everton’s Goodison Park on Sunday, a ground that City have struggled at in the Premier League. Goals from Aleksandar Kolarov and substitute Samir Nasri were enough to seal maximum points.

It was not the most polished display ever from City, but throughout the visitors looked in control for much of the proceedings, with Spanish playmaker David Silva at the heart of the action.

The diminutive Spanish international was at his best pulling the strings in the role behind lone striker Sergio Aguero, who lost his personal battle with Everton ‘keeper Tim Howard.

The City defence are looking far more solid this season, keeping out Everton’s in-form Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. Everton’s England starlet Ross Barkley was also well marshalled by Brazilian defensive midfielder Fernandinho.

Yesterday City were not at their best, but they defeated a very good Everton team on their home soil. It was the sort of performance that makes champions. Manuel Pellegrini’s side won at a difficult ground to visit when they were not at their best.

Premier League champions Chelsea also picked-up a win, beating West Brom 3-2 at the Hawthorns despite captain John Terry being dismissed early in the second half.

Pedro starred in the win grabbing the opening goal and then creating the Blues second goal for Diego Costa, after James Morrison had missed a penalty kick.

Morrison did get on the scoresheet in before half-time, only for Spanish full-back Cesar Azpilicueta to restore the visitors lead. The Baggies gave themselves a chance in the second half, as Morrison doubled his goal tally with a header.

However Chelsea held on for their first Premier League victory of the season. Boss Jose Mourinho will be happy with the result, but will not be happy at the fact that the Blues have now had a player dismissed in two of their three Premier League fixtures so far this season.

Are Manchester City now favourites to win the Premier League title?

  1. Having Toure and Kompany fit makes a big difference. Also Kolarov has been standout, not sure if they are using him in a different manner? If Bony comes around look out!
