According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Premier League leaders Manchester City are interested in signing veteran Italian midfielder Andrea Pirlo, who is currently plying his trade in the MLS with New York City.
The experienced star moved to New York from Italian champions Juventus on a free transfer when his contract with the Bianconeri expired. It was previously believed that Pirlo would never return to European football and would retired in the USA.
However, it seems that he is now in-demand in his home country and in England.
Italian news organisation Sport Mediaset is claiming that former-City and current Inter boss Roberto Mancini has had contact with Pirlo regarding the midfielder returning to Serie A.
The Citizens have numerous central midfield options, but it seems boss Manuel Pellegrini is looking to add even more experience to his squad. The midfielder is reaching the end of his career, but is still highly-rated.
Pirlo has been linked with moves to the Premier League in the past, but spent the best years of his career in the Italian top-flight, with the likes of Inter, AC Milan and Juventus. It seems like he could enjoy a swansong back in Europe.
Will Andrea Pirlo be heading back to Europe in January?
