Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya could be on the move this summer, with a number of clubs believed to be interested in signing the Spanish under-21 international.
The likes of Italian giants Juventus and Inter have both been linked with the full-back.
Montoya was expected to have a big future at Barcelona, especially as Brazilian right-back Dani Alves looked set to move on this summer. However, the 32-year-old put pen to paper on a two-year extension to his stay at the Nou Camp.
The European champions then strengthened the position with the signing of the versatile Aleix Vidal from Sevilla.
Vidal will not be available until for Barcelona until January, due to the Catalan clubs transfer embargo, but Alves staying has put Montoya’s Barcelona’s future majorly in doubt.
A number of clubs have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, with Premier League clubs Arsenal and Liverpool believed to be ready to make a move for the player.
Liverpool will lose England international Glen Johnson on a free transfer this summer, while youngster Jon Flanagan is still out of action through injury. That means the Reds have just on-loan Atletico Madrid Javier Manquillo to fill the position.
Signing a new right-back has to be a priority for Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers this summer and Montoya seems to have emerged as a position option for the Reds.
Arsenal have a number of options in the position, including former-Barcelona youngster Hector Bellerin and England starlet Calum Chambers.
Montoya may not be Arsene Wenger’s priority this summer, but he is believed to be monitoring his situation in Catalonia.
Montoya has the potential to become a very good player in the future. Unfortunately for him he has the irrepressible Alves in front of him in the Barcelona pecking order and may need to move on to fulfil his potential.
