Former-Real Madrid assistant manager Paul Clement has been handed a three-year contract at English Championship side Derby County.

The 43-year-old recently left Los Blancos, after the sacking of mentor and boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Clement is regarded as one of the most highly-rated young coaches in world football, but has no managerial experience. Ancelotti rated Clement highly and when he joined French giants PSG from Chelsea took Clement with him as his assistant.

When the Italian joined Real Madrid in 2013, he took his trusty assistant with him to the Spanish capital.

However, after gathering a wealth of knowledge of the European game Clement has decided to return to his homeland to enjoy his first taste of management.

Derby County had narrowly missed out on the play-offs on the last day of the Championship season, after an end of season collapse. Boss Steve McClaren was recently shown the door because of that poor end to the campaign.

McClaren was reportedly sacked due to the fact that he had failed to distance himself from the managerial position at Newcastle.

Clement had recently stated that he felt it was time that he tested himself as a manager, after starting his coaching career at the tender age of 23.

He had been linked with a number of jobs including at Newcastle and West Brom, but it is in the Midlands that the managerial rookie will get his chance to test his managerial skills to the full.

The Rams have some promising young players and could be realistic contenders for promotion to the Premier League next season.

Is Paul Clement a good appointment for Derby?
