According to Sky Sports, Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is set to travel to Istanbul in the next few days to have a medical at Fenerbahce after the clubs reportedly agreed a fee for the 31-year-old Dutch international.
Van Persie is believed to have already had the first part of his medical in England earlier today and the Dutchman looks set to sign a four-year-deal with the Turkish champions.
The striker’s future at Old Trafford has been in doubt since he was dropped at the end of last season by compatriot Louis van Gaal. The former-Arsenal striker is in the final year of his contract with the Red Devils.
Van Persie has been relatively prolific in English football since moving to Arsenal from Feyenoord 11 years ago. In season 2012/13, his first at United, he won the Premier League golden boot and helped Sir Alex Ferguson’s team reclaim the title from arch-rivals Manchester City.
However, he has struggled to recapture the form of his debut campaign at Old Trafford. Last season Van Persie made 29 appearances for United in all competitions and scored ten goals. The striker never quite hit top form though, which lead to the speculation over his future at United.
Van Persie could be the second player in a week to join Fenerbahce from United in a week after Portuguese winger Nani made the same journey earlier this week.
The prospective sale of the Dutch striker leaves United boss Van Gaal facing the prospect of having just England captain Wayne Rooney and youngster James Wilson as forward options for next season.
Should United sell Robin van Persie this summer?
