According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are in talks with Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen over a deal to sign South Korean forward Heung-Min Son.

A fee of around £18million has been mooted and he player is reported to be in London to have a medical.

The 23-year-old has impressed for Bayer in the last two years and last season scored 11 to help his team make the Champions League play-off spot. Bayer have made it into the group stages of the competition, after beating Lazio 3-1 on aggregate in their play-off.

However, it seems Son will not be playing in Europe’s elite competition with the German side and will be lining up in north London for Spurs instead.

Son is a very versatile player, capable on playing on both wings and as a central striker. It seems he may be considered as an alternative to West Brom’s Saido Berahino.

Spurs have had two bids rejected for the 22-year-old and it remains to be seen if they will now pursue a deal for England under-21 international, who recently saw a transfer request denied.

However, Spurs are believed to be close to selling Argentinian playmaker Erik Lamela to Italian club Inter Milan, so Son may be considered a replacement for the former-Roma star, rather than an alternative to Berahino.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be busy before the transfer window shuts, with Southampton defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama also reported as a transfer target.

The Kenyan will miss Southampton’s Europa League play-off with Danish champions Midtjylland on Thursday night, as he has a stomach infection, although it was originally speculated that his absence was due to a transfer request.

Will Heung-Min Son be a success in the Premier League?
