Manchester City centre-back Vincent Kompany looks set to play at least an hour in Belgium’s final Euro 2016 qualifier with Israel on Tuesday night, despite the fact that there are doubts over the defenders fitness.

Kompany missed Belgium’s win over Andorra on Saturday and has missed City’s last five games with a calf injury.

City has reportedly asked Belgium boss Marc Wilmots not to play Kompany, but Wilmots has already stated he expects the centre-back to feature against Israel.

Wilmots was bullish about the situation and said: “It’s not a question of whether I agree with Pellegrini – it has been my purpose for 10 days. I know what I am doing with Kompany, we work together with the medical staff and Vincent is ready.

“It is the last game at home and Vincent wants to play. I don’t take a risk with Kompany, no club in the world can say I take risks with my players. It’s not true, we don’t take risks.”

City have endured a terrible international break with key players striker Sergio Aguero and David Silva both picking-up relatively long-term injuries playing for their countries.

Everybody connected with City will be hoping that Kompany is not added to that injured list.

Will Vincent Kompany come through the game against Israel unscathed?
