Juventus CelebrationsAs unexpected as it may have seemed until seven matches ago Juventus have slowly but steadily recovered positions within the Italian Serie A. They lied fourteenth in the Italian Serie A, trailing the then Serie A leaders by more than 10 points. Since then their winning streak has allowed them to climb to fourth place trailing league leaders, Inter Milan, by only 3 points. Although sportsbooks kept considering Juventus as title favourites, general opinion was very pessimistic about Juventus winning the title for a fifth consecutive season.

Following the fantastic results achieved recently the vibe around Juventus has changed as it seems quite clearly that Juventus have found the stability they missed earlier in the season. Their summer signings are proving their worth with Alex Sandro, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic shining above others. Other players ares still being hindered by injuries, when these recover Juventus will strengthen even further.

Many believe that Juventus may miss out on the title only if they underestimate their opponents. Their Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich might be one of the distractions leading them to underestimate their domestic opponents. It is essential that Juventus continue their winning streak until the double Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich so that they may aim to be in the driving seat by then. Juventus are definitely back, their opponents are advised.

Leicester player celebrate after they ensured their Premier League status for next season

Pundits normally state that an indication on who will challenge for the Premier League title can be signaled after 10 matches. With 13 matches already played this season, the race to the league title is as open as never before as four teams are leading the table within a two point gap. To everyone’s surprise the league leaders are Leicester City, enjoying a one point advantage on Manchester United and two points on Manchester City and Arsenal. Many still consider Leicester to be a side that can’t compete for the title but some facts do give reason to a possible title challenge.

Let’s start with the obvious, Leicester have no European matches which means that they may concentrate exclusively on doing well within the league. Not participating in European matches also decreases the chances of players picking up injuries. When one looks at some statistics, it can be noticed that Leicester together with Tottenham are the only sides to have lost only one match. All the other sides have lost more than one match. Leicester are also the side that scored most goals in the Premier League. They are also experiencing a great season on a personal basis as some of their players are experiencing their best season ever. Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez are two examples with Vardy free scoring in the Premier League having already banged in 13 goals. Riyad Mahrez has scored another 7 goals and also contributed heavily in terms of assists. Lastly, it’s important to keep in mind that Leicester are being managed by an experienced manager in Claudio Ranieri that will assure that his side stays with their feet on the ground.

It’s still early to state if Leicester can challenge for the title till the very end but should they remain first till New Year they may really make a surprise run towards the Premier League title.

Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez scored a hat-trick in the Gunners 5-2 victory over Leicester at the King Power Stadium
Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is reportedly in line for a £155K-a-week deal until 2020

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed the club haven’t opened talks with German playmaker Mesut Ozil and Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez about a new long-term contract despite rumours suggesting otherwise, and further revealed that the Gunners aren’t in a rush as they time on their side to tie the duo down for their best years.

“We have not started to talk about that with Mesut Ozil. (Sanchez) is the same situation, at the end of the year they have two-and-a-half years left. We have some time. We are not in a hurry. We want of course for them to stay in the club, and we’ll start negotiations at some stage, but at the moment we have not started,” he said.

Various reports had suggested Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez were to become the highest-paid players in the squad by some distance, while set to commit their future to the Londoners for another five years, but according to Wenger talks haven’t even started. While both players have expressed a desire to stay at Arsenal, the rumour mill has been in full force, linking Sanchez with an unlikely move to Real Madrid, and Ozil to Juventus.

Arsenal have enjoyed a bright start to the new season, and its thanks in large part to the contributions of the two players in question, with Ozil the leading assist-maker with 10 in 11 appearances, and Sanchez joint-top scorer with six in 12. Wenger has identified the attacking duo as key players in Arsenal’s pursuit for the Premier League title, and is planning on prolonging their stay at the Emirates in order to achieve it.

Contrary to his recent comments, Arsenal are expected to get the ball rolling on new deals for Ozil and Sanchez in the coming week.

Manchester city midfielder Samir Nasri has been ruled out of action for three months

Manchester City and France playmaker Samir Nasri will miss the next three months of the season through injury.

The former-Arsenal has taken to social media to reveal the extent of a hamstring injury that has kept him out of action for the last few weeks.

The France international midfielder posted on his Instagram: “What doesn’t kill you make you stronger. I will be back better than ever see you in 3 months.”

Nasri has struggled with a hamstring injury that has forced him to miss City’s last three games and meant he has not started a game since the middle of September.

Nasri was recently linked with a move to reigning Italian champions Juventus, but had previously expressed his determination to maintain his spot in the City line-up.

A move to Turin in January is now very unlikely, as he will not be fit until after the transfer window shuts.

The summer arrival of big money signings Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne has reduced Nasri’s chances of first team football greatly. He could find it difficult to get back into the City starting line-up when he returns to action in February.

Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Everton centre-back John Stones

According to the Daily Telegraph, Barcelona sent scouts to watch Everton centre-back John Stones play for England on Friday night against Spain.

It turns out that the youngster did not appear in Alicante, but the highly-rated defender impressed Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat of France at Wembley.

Spain and Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique recently revealed his liking of Stones and named him in his current world eleven. Stones is regarded as one of the most highly-rated young English players currently plying their trade in the Premier League.

Chelsea had numerous bids rejected for Stones in the summer, as Everton resisted the temptation to cash-in on the youngster. Boss Roberto Martinez rejected a transfer request from Stones and he has since produced some impressive performances for the Toffee this season.

It seems inevitable that the youngster will leave the Merseyside club, but with the centre-back being so in-demand he is likely to cost mega money.

A bid of around £40milion has been mooted and a move to Spanish giants would be hard to turn down for the youngster.

Martinez has good contacts in Catalonia, as it is his home region. The former-Wigan boss has already brought in Spanish winger Gerard Deulofeu from the European champions.

A player may be heading in the opposite direction if Stones impresses the visiting Barcelona scouts.

Could John Stones be heading to Barcelona?

Premier League new boys Bournemouth are being linked with a £3million bid for Hull City centre-back Curtis Davies in January in the pipeline according to the Daily Mirror

The 30-year-old is out of contract with the Tigers in the summer and is likely to leave for a fee in January instead of the Championship team losing the former-West Brom player in the summer for nothing.

Bournemouth has struggled to keep clean sheets in the top-flight and are currently short of centre-back options with captain and centre-back Tommy Elphick currently out of action through injury.

With the Cherries conceding so many goals this season then defensive reinforcements may be boss Eddie Howe’s main priority in the January transfer window.

Davies has vast experience in the top two divisions of English football having played in the Premier League with Aston Villa, West Brom and Hull, before the Tigers relegation last season.

Davies is entering the latter stages of his career, so may well fancy a return to the top-flight in the near future.

However with Hull top of the Championship table, a switch to relegation-threatened Bournemouth may be a gamble for Davies, as the Cherries could be in for a swift return to the second tier, with the Tigers heading in the opposite direction.

West Brom striker Saido Berahino is being linked with a move to Chelsea

According to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea are considering a £20million January bid for West Brom star Saido Berahino.

The 22-year-old is reportedly on the Blues January wish list with the reigning champions currently struggling near the foot of the Premier League table.

Part of the Blues problems this season is that they have been struggling to score goals this season with first choice striker Diego Costa failing to find his scoring touch this season.

The likes of Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy have enjoyed limited time up front this season and it seems that Blues boss Jose Mourinho is looking for alternative attacking options when the transfer window re-opens.

Berahino was the subject of a failed bid from Tottenham on transfer deadline day and vowed never to play again for the Baggies while Jeremy Peace was still chairman.

He has since settled his differences with the club and has scored three goals in the top-flight this season, after finding the net 14 times in the top-flight last season.

Berahino has added attraction in the fact he is English and will help the Blues meet the home-grown quota. The potential arrival of a new striker may well see Radamel Falcao’s loan deal at Monaco cancelled.

Will Chelsea make a move for Berahino in January?

Former-Liverpool star Xabi Alonso is being linked with a return to Anfield

According to the Daily Express, Liverpool are set to make a move for former midfielder Xabi Alonso.

The Spaniard has played a key part in Pep Guardiola’s spell at German champions Bayern Munich, but Tuttomercatoweb are reporting that he will not be offered a new deal in Bavaria.

Those reports have reportedly alerted Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who is believed to be an admirer of the former Spanish international.

Alonso spent five years at Anfield from 2004 to 2009 and was part of the Reds team that won the Champions League in 2005 against AC Milan, as Rafa Benitez’s team came back from three goals down to win the trophy on penalty kicks.

The midfielder moved to Real Madrid in 2009 and spent five years with the Spanish giants. He also won the Champions League with Los Blancos in 2014, which was the clubs tenth European Cup.

The defensive midfielder turns 34 later this month, so is very much in the veteran stage of his career. However the midfielder still has a lot to offer and his football brain seems in good working order.

Maybe Alonso would enjoy one last stint in the Premier League, after previously admitting he is still a big fan of Liverpool.

Would Xabi Alonso be a good signing for Liverpool?

Charlie Austin is being linked with a January move to Aston Villa

According to the Daily Telegraph, Aston Villa are set to make a £8million move for QPR striker Charlie Austin in January.

The Villans are bottom of the Premier League table and are the lowest scoring team in the top-flight.

Austin was linked with moves to a number of top-flight clubs in the summer, but no clubs made an official move for the striker. The 26-year-old is out-of-contract in the summer and looks set to leave the Hoops.

Austin has scored seven goals in 11 Championship games this season, but it was his 18 goals the previous season in the Premier League that had team clamouring for his signature.

QPR were expected to mount a promotion campaign this season, but are currently 13th in the Championship table. They have an important decision to make on Austin future.

The Hoops will need to decide whether to sell him in January to gain a fee or keep hold of the striker in a bid to get back in the promotion picture.

Austin is the sort of prolific striker that Villa are in desperate of. He has proven that he can score goals in every league he has played in and the Premier League was no exception. The England hopeful looks like he could be an ideal signing for the Villans.

The Hungary players celebrate after sealing their spot at Euro 2016

Hungary has qualified for Euro 2016, after defeating Norway 3-1 on aggregate in the play-offs.

The Hungarians sealed their place in France by beating Norway 2-1 at the Groupama Arena on Sunday night.

Bernd Storck’s side headed into the second leg 1-0 up from the first leg in Norway and took the lead on 14 minutes through an effort from former-Watford striker Tamas Priskin.

The Hungarians doubled their lead on 83 minutes, as midfielder Markus Henriksen put past his own ‘keeper from a corner kick.

The midfielder got a goal back for the visitors four minutes later, but it was too little too late for the Scandinavians. The underdogs claimed a historic victory to seal their place at the European Championships for the first time since 1972.

Storck’s team also made it to their first major championship since the 1986 World Cup and it is a major achievement for the country.

This evening Republic of Ireland and Bosnia and Herzegovina go head to head in another European Championship play-off.

The first leg finished 1-1, so the game is very well balanced heading into the game at the Aviva Stadium. The hosts hold a slight advantage, having scored an away goal in the first leg.
