According to the Daily Telegraph, Barcelona sent scouts to watch Everton centre-back John Stones play for England on Friday night against Spain.
It turns out that the youngster did not appear in Alicante, but the highly-rated defender impressed Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat of France at Wembley.
Spain and Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique recently revealed his liking of Stones and named him in his current world eleven. Stones is regarded as one of the most highly-rated young English players currently plying their trade in the Premier League.
Chelsea had numerous bids rejected for Stones in the summer, as Everton resisted the temptation to cash-in on the youngster. Boss Roberto Martinez rejected a transfer request from Stones and he has since produced some impressive performances for the Toffee this season.
It seems inevitable that the youngster will leave the Merseyside club, but with the centre-back being so in-demand he is likely to cost mega money.
A bid of around £40milion has been mooted and a move to Spanish giants would be hard to turn down for the youngster.
Martinez has good contacts in Catalonia, as it is his home region. The former-Wigan boss has already brought in Spanish winger Gerard Deulofeu from the European champions.
A player may be heading in the opposite direction if Stones impresses the visiting Barcelona scouts.
Could John Stones be heading to Barcelona?
Everton has been a fun watch this year. I love their squad, I hope they can keep it together
