Hull City dropped into the Premier League relegation zone on Saturday, after losing 1-0 at home to fellow strugglers Burnley.
The only goal of the game arrived on 62 minutes, as Danny Ings firing home an effort from the edge of the six-yard box.
The Clarets had to win to have any hope of survival, but it turns out that despite their win Sean Dyche’s team will be playing in the Championship next season after all with the other results on Saturday going against them.
Hull could be joining the side from Lancashire in the second tier, after suffering their second consecutive defeat. Steve Bruce’s side face a tough trip to Tottenham in their game and then round-off their campaign with a home game against Manchester United.
On paper those are two very difficult fixtures, while the teams around them have far easier games remaining games, with the possible exception of Sunderland, who face Leicester, Arsenal and Chelsea in their three remaining games.
Under Steve Bruce the Tigers have spent relatively heavily strengthening their squad in the past few years and made the FA Cup final last season. It seems they now have a job on their hands avoiding the drop.
The side from Humberside are two points away from safety and will have to be at their best in their remaining games and hope that their rival’s slipping-up in their remaining games. If not then Steve Bruce and his team are facing up to the possibility of life in the second tier next season.
