According to Sky Sports, Premier League champions Chelsea are looking at bringing in former-AC Milan ‘keeper Marco Amelia as cover for Asmir Begovic.

Begovic is currently first choice ‘keeper at Stamford Bridge, as undisputed number one Thibaut Courtois is set to be sidelined through injury until at least December.

The Blues have named youngster Jamal Blackman as their back-up ‘keeper in recent games, but boss Jose Mourinho looks to be seeking a more experienced back-up ‘keeper.

Experienced Italian international Amelia was released by Italian giants AC Milan in the summer of 2014 and had a short stint at Perugia towards the end of last season, but failed to make an appearance for the Serie B side.

Amelia made just 34 Serie A appearances in four years for AC Milan, before being released. His most successful spell at any club was when he spent seven years at Livorno, and made 167 league appearances for the Amaranto.

With the transfer window closed Chelsea’s options are currently limited and Amelia is reported to be training with the Blues, with a view to being offered a short contract with the Premier League champions. With Courtois expected back before the end of the year, Amelia’s stay in England would likely be a short one.

Should Chelsea sign Marco Amelia?
