According to the Daily Star, Newcastle are looking to sign West Brom striker Saido Berahino in a deal worth £20million this summer.

The Magpies are looking to rebuild under new head coach Steve McClaren and it seems Berahino is one of the players that the former-Middlesbrough boss wants to bring to the north east.

Highly-rated

England under-21 international Berahino is highly-rated. The 21-year-old scored 20 goals for the Baggies last season.

His performances are believed to have attracted a number of the Premier League’s top clubs. The likes of Liverpool and Spurs were both linked with the young forward in the January transfer window.

Plans

New Toon boss McClaren is believed to have made QPR striker Charlie Austin his top transfer target this summer. However, it seems that the former Derby boss would like Austin to be partnered by Berahino next season in a new look strike-force.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley at the end of last season promised there would be funds available for the Magpies to strengthen their squad this summer.

McClaren could be busy in the transfer market, as the club looks to lift some of the doom and gloom of last season.

No deal for Berahino is likely to take place until after the under-21 European Championships with Berahino expected to play a key role for England.

Boost

The rumours of the likes of Austin and Berahino joining could be a massive boost for the long suffering Toon Army. The club came very close to being relegated to the Championship last season and they will want to avoid a similar scenario next season.

Will Newcastle sign Saido Berahino this summer?
