Manchester City moved back to the top of the Premier League table with a 6-1 trouncing of out-of-form Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, with Sergio Aguero the star of the show netting five goals.

Newcastle have struggled to find form this season, but caused City problems in the early stages of this clash. In fact the Magpies took the lead on 18 minutes, as Georginio Wijnaldum’s cross was headed home by striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

City was back on level terms on 42 minutes. Fernandinho’s deft cross was headed home from close-range by Aguero.

Five minutes into the second half the Citizens took the lead and it was that man Aguero scoring once again, as his effort from the edge of the box took a deflection off Yoan Gouffran and beat Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal.

Aguero scored his hat-trick just a minute later, chipping over Krul after Kevin De Bruyne put him through on-goal. De Bruyne got on the scoresheet himself on 53 minutes volleying home at the far post from Jesus Navas’ cross.

Aguero made it five on the hour mark, curling an effort from 18 yards into the bottom corner of the net. Two minutes later and Aguero made it six. De Bruyne fired a cross across the face of goal and the Argentinian scored from close-range.

The win took the Citizens back to the top of the Premier League table and signals a return to form for Aguero.

Can Sergio Aguero now find his best form?
