Arsenal were hammered 3-0 by Championship Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup fourth round at Hillsborough on Tuesday.

That was not the end of the bad news for the Gunners though, as England duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott were both injured in the opening 20 minutes of the clash.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has a hamstring injury, while Walcott has a calf problem. Both players could miss Saturday’s visit to Wales to face Swansea.

Walcott has been a regular up front for Arsenal this season and was keeping French international striker Olivier Giroud on the substitute bench, until last weekend when Walcott was rested for the 2-1 win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been in and out of the Arsenal first team for the past few years and has previously struggled to hold down a regular first team place.

Arsene boss Arsene Wenger will now be sweating on the pair’s fitness and the extent of their injuries, with a packed schedule ahead of the Gunners in the next few weeks.

Neither player is likely to be risked at the Liberty Stadium, if they are doubtful and could be rested as a precaution.

Can Arsenal cope with their current injury problems?
