European champions Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Aleix Vidal from La Liga rivals Sevilla.

Vidal is set to undergo a medical in Catalonia today ahead of a signing a five-year contract with the Catalan giants. The versatile star could cost Luis Enrique’s club up to £12million depending on add-ons.

Form

Vidal only joined Sevilla from Almeria last summer, but has impressed this season especially in the Andalusians successful Europa League campaign. His form was so impressive that he recently earned his first call-up to the Spanish national team.

The 25-year-old has been played at full-back this season by Unai Emery, despite his natural position being as a winger.

The player was actually born in Catalonia and started his professional career at Barcelona’s rivals Espanyol, before making the move to Almeria where he spent three seasons.

Delayed

With Brazilian full-back Dani Alves expected to leave the Nou Camp this summer Vidal could be seen as an ideal replacement for the former-Sevilla star.

However, due to the transfer embargo currently imposed on Barcelona the versatile will have to wait until January to make his Barca debut.

Strengthen

Having sealed a historic treble on Saturday night, Barcelona will now look to strengthen from a position of power.

Vidal may not be as highly-rated as Alves yet, but he looks to have enough potential to be a very steady long-term replacement for the outgoing Brazilian star.

No doubt Barcelona will add other players to their squad this summer, despite their inability to be able to play them until January.

Is Alex Vidal good enough to play for Barcelona?
