Fresh from winning the Champions League, Barcelona have secured the futures of full-backs Dani Alves and Jordi Alba and forward Pedro Rodriguez.

Alba has extended his contract until 2020 and Pedro’s new contract expires in 2019. Both the players now have release clauses of 150 million euros in their contract.

Unexpected

Brazil full-back Dani Alves’s future at the Nou Camp was in doubt this summer, with his contract expiring with the Catalan giants. The 32-year-old has now signed a two-year extension to stay in Catalonia.

Alves was strongly linked with a move to Italy in recent weeks, with AC Milan mooted as a possible destination for him this summer.

Pedro has been loyal to Barcelona, despite the fact that he has not been a regular starter in the first team in recent seasons. The Spanish international had been linked with a move in order to play regular football in the new season.

Embargo

The re-signing of Alves will come as a slight relief to Barcelona, as the club are currently in the midst of a transfer embargo that will last until January.

They have already confirmed the signing of Sevilla star Aleix Vidal, who was expected to be Alves long-term replacement.

Key

The likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez may get the media attention, but full-backs Alves and Alba are key to the way that the Catalan giants play.

Both players have been superb for the European champions and no doubt will continue to be outstanding for Luis Enrique’s team in the new season.

Will Pedro play more regular football for Barcelona next season?
