Bayern Munich heads into tonight’s Champions League quarter-final second leg with FC Porto 3-1 down from the first leg.

The Bavarians face an uphill task getting back into the game, largely due to a number of key absentees.

The absence of wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben could be particularly crucial, as both are game changers. These are the sort of players that come up with moments of brilliance and inspiration that win games, or even trophies.

Bayern have a strong squad, but that has been put under-pressure in recent weeks by injuries and suspensions. David Alaba, Javi Martinez and Mehdi Benatia will also miss the second leg.

Germany internationals Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm have also both just returned to action following injuries.

Despite Bayern missing players the visitors are still likely to be put under severe pressure from the start of this clash.

The Portuguese outfit face the trip to the Allianz Arena without full-backs Alex Sandro and Danilo. On-loan Barcelona forward Cristian Tello is also a doubt for the clash with a thigh injury.

Possible

In usual circumstances Bayern would probably be favourites to progress in this tie, even at two goals down from the first leg.

The German side’s record at the Allianz Arena and the sheer quality within their squad would usual guarantee a home victory.

The injuries to key players may take its toll on the Bavarians, but it is not impossible to see them claim the 2-0 victory that they need to progress to the semi-finals.
