Hull City became the third and final team to be relegated from the Premier League to the Championship, after a goalless home draw with fourth-place Manchester United on Sunday.

Newcastle’s 2-0 victory over West Ham ensured that the Magpies survive the drop and Hull were relegated.

The Tigers have struggled for goals and that trend continued as the side from Humberside endured a frustrating afternoon. Steve Bruce’s side had two goals disallowed in the first half, but could not find the breakthrough they needed.

In the end though, even a winning goal would not have been enough for the Tigers to secure their Premier League safety, as Newcastle claimed their first win in eleven games with a 2-0 victory over West Ham at St James Park.

The first half was goalless and it was a nervy performance from the Magpies until the 54th minute.

Argentinian ace Jonas Gutierrez got down the wing and found Moussa Sissoko, who headed past Adrian in the Irons goal. The goal was treated with euphoria by the St James Park crowd.

The Magpies sealed their safety on 85 minutes. It was a dream ending to his Newcastle career for Gutierrez, whose powerful effort took a deflection and found the net. The Argentinian is out-of-contract this summer and looks set to leave for pastures new.

The win meant that Newcastle leapfrogged Aston Villa and Sunderland and finished 15th in the Premier League table. Meanwhile Hull finished 18th position and will be preparing for life in the Championship next season.

Did Hull City deserve to be relegated from the Premier League this season?
