According to the Guardian, Manchester United are looking at PSG striker Edinson Cavani as a possible replacement for Dutch striker Robin van Persie, who is set to complete a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce later today.

The Guardian also claims that Argentinian midfielder Angel Di Maria could move the opposite way as a makeweight in the deal. Di Maria only joined United last summer from Real Madrid for a British record fee of £59.7million.

Di Maria has struggled to find his top form in the English top-flight and is now being linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

PSG are one of the clubs who have previously been linked with a move for the playmaker and a swap deal could provide the ideal solution.

Cavani is regarded as one of the best out-and-out number nines in the world game, but often been employed on the flanks in the French capital to accommodate Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Despite playing for nearly half of the last campaign on the left wing the striker still scored 31 goals in all competitions for the Parisians.

The Uruguayan would be a marquee signing for the Red Devils if they could bring him to Old Trafford, especially as Louis van Gaal’s team are now down to just two central strikers in England captain Wayne Rooney and rookie James Wilson.

With United looking to challenge for the Premier League title in the coming season the Red Devils are in need of strengthening their squad this summer.

Will Edinson Cavani be a Manchester United player next season?
