Spanish international ‘keeper Victor Valdes has been told he can leave Manchester United this summer

Manchester United could be in something of a ‘keeper dilemma this summer, after boss Louis van Gaal revealed that former-Barcelona star Victor Valdes will be sold.

Couple that with speculation that Spanish giants Real Madrid are still interested in first choice number one David de Gea, the Red Devils could be left very short in the goalkeeping department in the new campaign.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Tottenham’s French international Hugo Lloris, but the former-Lyon star is currently sidelined through injury. Lloris is highly-rated and Spurs will be desperate to keep hold of him ahead of the new season.

United have also been linked with former-Sampdoria ‘keeper Sergio Romero, who is a free agent this summer. The 28-year-old made just 11 appearances for the Italian side last season, after spending the previous campaign on-loan at Monaco.

In truth Romero’s performances for his country have been better than those at club level. However that may be due to a lack of opportunities.

Meanwhile Valdes is now free to find a new club. The Spanish international only joined the Red Devils as a free agent in January after spending time with the club recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament.

Valdes has fallen-out-of-favour with Van Gaal after refusing to play in a reserve team game. Ironically Spanish outfit Valencia have both Valdes and Romero on their summer transfer wishlist.

United have been busy in the transfer market this summer and it seems the overhaul of the Red Devils squad is not yet complete.

Who will be United’s number one in the new campaign?
