Manchester United claimed a 3-2 win at Southampton on Sunday, after new signing Anthony Martial struck a brace for the Red Devils.

The home side took the lead on 13 minutes. James Ward-Prowse’s cross found Sadio Mane, whose effort was superbly saved by David de Gea, only for Graziano Pelle to score from the rebound. The Italian then missed the chance to double his teams lead, hitting the post when through on goal.

United were back on level terms on 34 minutes. Morgan Schneiderlin found Juan Mata, who looked to be in an offside position, the Spaniard was tackled, but the ball fell to Martial who showed good composure to equalise for the visitors.

Martial was at it again just after half-time, as the youngster latched onto a poor back-pass from Maya Yoshida and kept his cool to fire past Maarten Stekelenburg.

The Red Devils doubled their lead on 68 minutes. Memphis Depay’s effort hit the post, but Juan Mata was in the right place to score from the rebound.

The Saints looked to be back in the game on 86 minutes, as Pelle headed home from Sadio Mane’s cross. The goal only turned out to be a consolation for the home side, as the Saints failed to find the crucial equaliser.
