This weekend saw a number of Premier League stars end their goal draughts.
The likes of Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney and Alexis Sanchez have been prolific in previous campaigns, but all three had struggled to find the net this season, until this weekend that is.
Here I look at the stats and figures about the players involved in those long Premier League goal draughts.
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
Incredible prior to his second half strike in United’s 3-0 home win against Sunderland on Saturday, Rooney had not scored in his last 11 Premier League appearances, stretching back to last season.
The England captain had scored a hat-trick in the Champions League qualifier against Club Brugge, and also for England, but Saturday’s was his first league goal of the campaign.
Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)
The Chilean forward broke his scoring duck in spectacular style, scoring a hat-trick in the Gunners 5-2 defeat of Leicester at the King Power Stadium. Prior to the treble in the Midlands, Sanchez had gone 14 hours without scoring in the top-flight.
His appearance at the Copa America no doubt has affected his fitness this season, but he now looks ready to make an impact for the Gunners this season.
Harry Kane (Tottenham)
England international Harry Kane finished as runner-up in the Premier League golden boot race last season. Only Argentinian superstar Sergio Aguero scored more top-flight goals in England.
However, despite scoring twice in England recent Euro 2016 qualifiers, the striker had not found the net in 748 minutes for Spurs, dating back to last season. His last Premier League goal came on the last day of last season at Everton.
He must have been a relieved man to find the net in Spurs’ 4-1 demolition of early pacesetters Manchester City at White Hart Lane. No doubt the strike will allow the floodgates to open for the England international.
