Newcastle are reportedly set to make a move for former-Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole, with reports suggesting that his current employers Roma are willing to sell Cole.
The former-England international who turns 35 next month, is out-of-favour in Rome and is believed to have rejected a return to England in the summer. However with his future at Roma in doubt, Cole could now be ready to return to England.
The full-back only joined the Giallorossi in the summer of 2014 from Chelsea after eight trophy-laden campaigns at Stamford Bridge.
Cole has yet to make an appearance for Roma this year and due to injury problems has only made 16 appearances in injury.
With his status in the Italian capital in doubt a return to the English top-flight may appeal to the veteran star.
Cole’s contract with the Giallorossi expires in the summer, but a return to the Premier League may come slightly sooner with the January transfer window faster approaching.
Newcastle started the campaign in poor fashion, but the Magpies fortunes have improved in recent weeks and Steve McClaren have scrambled out of the relegation zone. They had been poor at the back, but have now kept consecutive clean sheets.
Cole would certainly not be a bad addition to the Newcastle squad, even if he is not in his prime any more.
