Former Chelsea star Demba Ba looks set for a move to Shanghai Shenhua

According to reports from various news agencies former Chelsea striker Demba Ba is set to make a move to the Chinese Super League to join Shanghai Shenhua.

Chinese news agency Xinhua referred have to a “possible record transfer fee”, which was previously £10.6million paid for Brazilian star Ricardo Goulart in January by champions Guangzhou Evergrande.

The Senegal international is believed to be close to signing a big-money three-year contract worth around £11.3million, with a medical scheduled for later today.

The 30-year-old spent last season at Turkish club Besiktas, after leaving Premier League Chelsea last summer. The striker’s spell in Turkish football was successful, as he scored 27 goals in 44 appearances for the Turkish side.

Ba has endured a long career in European football having played in Belgium and Germany before making a move to the Premier League, where he played for West Ham, Newcastle and of course Chelsea. He has scored goals wherever he has played.

Premier League West Brom were being heavily linked with a move to bring Ba back to the English top-flight, but it seems that they have missed out on signing the striker and will have to look elsewhere for attacking additions.

If Ba does complete the move to Shanghai then he will be playing alongside former Everton star Tim Cahill and former Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko, who was most recently playing for Levante in La Liga.

Shanghai has a history of signing former Chelsea players, as both Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka have played for the club.

Is Demba Ba’s latest move motivated by his fat pay cheque?
