According to Sky Sports, Tottenham have agreed a fee of around £4million to sign Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer from Cologne.  The 22-year-old looks set to sign a four-year deal with the club from north London.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the German defender for a while and it now seems that the deal will go through this summer.

The youngster has one cap for his country and is expected to have a bright future in the game.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking to strengthen his squad with bright young talent, but cannot spend huge sums of money this summer after previous bosses spent big attempting to get the club into the Champions League.

The arrival of Wimmer this summer could lead to the exit of transfer listed centre-backs Vlad Chiriches and Younes Kaboul, who the north London club attempted to sell in the January transfer window.

In fact there looks like there could be a major overhaul of the Tottenham squad this summer, as most of the squad were purchased by previous bosses and do not fit into Pochettino’s plans, or have simply underperformed at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham finish their season with a trip to Everton later today. They are currently sixth in the Premier League table and have a chance of overtaking Liverpool and to finish fifth, which would be on position higher than last season.

Spurs will once again qualify for the Europa League for next season, but their main aim for next season will be a challenge for a Champions League spot next season.

Will Kevin Wimmer be a good signing for Tottenham?
