According to the Press Association, Manchester United playmaker Angel Di Maria is set to have a medical with French giants PSG with a fee of around £44million believed to have been agreed between the two clubs.

Di Maria has been with the Red Devils for just one season, after making a British-record £59.7million move from Real Madrid last summer. The highly-rated 27-year-old has struggled to settle in Manchester, as niggling injuries have hampered his United career.

Di Maria produced ten assists and four goals in his only season at United, but he never seemed comfortable in the English top-flight. The Argentinian will be a loss to the Red Devils, despite being perceived as a flop.

The previous campaign Di Maria was the European assist king as Real Madrid won La Decima. A move to a more central midfielder role was the key to his assist rated and good performances.

However at United he has been used in many positions and he was never settled in just one, playing in eight different roles for Louis van Gaal’s team.

Di Maria is without doubt a quality player, but like so many South American players who fail to shine it seems the change of culture has been too much for the former Benfica star.

United are believed to have already lined-up a replacement for Di Maria in the shape of Barcelona and Spain’s Pedro, who has a release clause of around £22million in his contract in the Catalan capital.

If Pedro does arrive in Manchester this summer he will hope to settle more easily than Di Maria, because despite his major talent he will be seen as a Premier League flop once he makes the move to Paris.

Are Manchester United doing the right thing by selling Angel Di Maria?
