Manchester United spent £36million on young French striker Anthony Martial on transfer deadline day

The English Premier League deadline day saw a few big moves in the transfer market. The biggest deal of the day came from Manchester United, who spent a whooping £36million on highly-rated French forward Anthony Martial.

The 19-year-old has become one of the hottest properties in European football after impressing for Monaco in Ligue One and the Champions League last season.

The deal makes Martial the most expensive teenager in the history of world football. The youngster has been handed the number nine shirt at Old Trafford and Red Devils fans will be hoping he hits the ground running at his new club.

Southampton have become something of a selling club in the past years, as the Saints have been harvested for their best players.

However, this summer they hung on to star assets Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane, despite the former handing in a transfer request.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman also spent £11.5million on a new centre-back on deadline day, bringing in Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk from SPL side Celtic. Van Dijk is impressive on the ball and should fit right in on the south coast.

His defensive qualities have been questioned though. With Koeman for a mentor he should improve the defensive side of his game though.

Everton also spent relatively big by bringing in Argentinian international defender Ramiro Funes Mori from River Plate for a fee of £9.5million.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for River in recent years and is highly-rated on his home continent.

Mori speaks fluent English, as his family emigrated from Argentina to USA when he was just ten. He started his career as a youth player at Dallas FC, before moving back to his homeland in 2008 to sign for River.

Who will be the biggest deadline day success?
