According to AS, Chelsea midfielder Gael Kakuta is set to travel to Spain to complete a free transfer to Europa League winners Sevilla.

The Frenchman is expected to sign a four-year deal after his contract with the Blues expired. The Premier League club will receive compensation for the midfielder, as he is under 24 years-old.

Struggled

Kakuta arrived at Chelsea in 2007 and there were high hopes that he would go on to become a top player for the club from south west London.

However, in 2009 Kakuta was given a four month ban and Chelsea given a transfer embargo for an alleged breach of contract, which related to his time with former-club Lens.

Both were overturned when Chelsea mounted an appeal and it was established that Kakuta did not have a valid contract with the French club.

The Frenchman struggled for first team football at Stamford Bridge. He was then sent out on-loan to the likes of Fulham, Bolton, Dijon, Vitesse and Lazio.

Impressed

Last season he spent the campaign on-loan in La Liga with Rayo Vallecano, where he made 23 appearances and scored four goals. It was arguably his most impressive campaign of his career so far and attracted the interest of Sevilla.

Resurrect

At 23-years-old Kakuta still has time to fulfil some of his potential and Sevilla could just be the place to do it. The move to Sevilla will give Kakuta the chance to resurrect his career and prove that he does have the ability to make it at the top level.

Will Gael Kakuta be a success at Sevilla?
