According to Sky Sports, newly promoted Watford have made a club-record £7million bid for Genoa’s Argentine winger Diego Perotti.

It would represent a major move for the Hornets whose current transfer record was £3.2million paid for Nathan Ellington in 2007.

Bargain

Perotti only moved to the Rossoblu last summer from La Liga side Sevilla for a bargain fee of £250,000, although the Andalusians will receive 20 per cent of any future fee for the forward.

The fee was a small one for a player who had spent five years in Spain developing his talent with Sevilla.

Decent

The forward enjoyed a decent first season in the Italian top-flight last season, making 27 appearances scoring five goals and collecting four assists.

The Argentinian had struggled for first team football in his last few years in Seville.

In-demand

His performances for the Italian side have apparently attracted the interest of a host of other clubs this summer, with West Ham, Inter and Valencia all believed to be interested in signing the forward. Watford could face a big battle to sign the former-Boca ace this summer.

Strengthening

Watford boss Quique Flores will be looking to strengthen his squad with the Hornets returning to the Premier League next season.

Flores will have known about Perotti from his days in Spanish football and no doubt the former-Atletico Madrid boss will be looking to La Liga for prospective new signings.

Flores will need to work fast, as the Hornets are one of the favourites to be relegated from the Premier League next season.

Would Diego Perotti be a good signing for Watford?
