Premier League Chelsea have moved to replace Petr Cech by signing Bosnia and Herzegovina international Asmir Begovic from Stoke for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £8million.

Czech Republic international Petr Cech recently moved to the Blues London rivals Arsenal and left a back-up keeping spot free at Stamford Bridge.

Begovic will have to compete with highly-rated young Belgium international Thibaut Courtois for the number one shirt in south west London.

However, just like Cech, Begovic may need to prepare himself for a lot of bench warming next season, as Courtois is already considered one of the best ‘keepers in the world game. At just 23 years-old the youngster has already won league titles in Spain and England.

He is undisputed number one at Chelsea, but Begovic will be hoping he can change all that and oust him from the team.

Begovic has built a reputation in recent years as one of the most reliable ‘keepers in the Premier League, as Stoke have solidified their position in the English top-flight. He had previously been linked with moves to both Arsenal and Manchester United.

The Potters are not short of goalkeeping talent though, as highly-rated England under-21 international Jack Butland and veteran ‘keeper Shay Given are already at the club.

Butland is regarded as one of the brightest young ‘keepers that England has produced in a long time and he could now get his chance in the Potters goal, with the experienced Given as backup.

Will Asmir Begovic play much football for Chelsea next season?
