According to Sky Sports, Southampton are in talks with Feyenoord over the signing of highly-rated central midfielder Jordy Clasie.

The Holland international would be considered the ideal replacement for French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin who recently joined Manchester United for £25million.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman knows Clasie well, as he managed his compatriot at Feyenoord and is believed to be a big admirer of the midfielder.

The 24-year-old was left out of Feyenoord’s squad for the Dutch clubs friendly on Sunday against Fortuna Dusseldorf, which has led to speculation that he could be closer to a move away from the club. The midfielder is rated in the £15million bracket.

Clasie is currently his clubs captain and has made over 125 Eredivisie appearances and won 11 caps for his country, making two appearances at last year’s World Cup, including in the semi-final against Argentina as a substitute.

For a player of his age Clasie has a good level of experience and could be a very shrewd signing for the Saints.

Clasie had previously been linked with a move to the Premier League with Newcastle, but it appears that the Saints are now in pole position to sign him and are holding talks with the Rotterdam club.

The Saints had also been linked with a move for Polish midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, who currently plies his trade in La Liga with Sevilla. The 25-year-old is rated in the £20million bracket and is highly-rated.

However, the midfielder is reported to have reaffirmed his loyalty to the men from Andalucía and re-buff the interest from the Saints.

Will Jordy Clasie be a good signing for Southampton?
