According to the BBC, Manchester United has opened contract talks with Spanish ‘keeper David de Gea.

The Spaniard was linked with a big money move to Spanish giants Real Madrid for much of the summer and a £29million move to Los Blancos collapsed late in the summer transfer window.

De Gea has been one of United’s key players over the past few seasons, winning consecutive Player of the Year award’s with the Red Devils. However, United were willing to sell as the 24-year-old now has less than a year on his contract with the club.

United had previously made numerous offers of a new contract to De Gea and had seemingly accepted the fact that their key asset was leaving.

There now seems a twist in the tail though, as De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes was at United’s training camp on Thursday, reportedly in negotiations over a new deal for the Spaniard.

De Gea has not played for United this season, due to his contract situation, but could be brought in out of the cold for Saturday’s clash with arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.

De Gea recently played his first competitive game of the season, as he appeared for Spain in the Ra Roja’s 1-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win over Macedonia.

Could David de Gea sign a new contract at United?
