According to Sky Sports, Chelsea’s first choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois could miss Saturday’s trip to Everton’s Goodison Park.
Some reports in the British media this morning are even suggesting the Belgian international picked-up an injury on international duty that could keep him out of action for up to two months.
The 23-year-old picked-up a knee injury with his international side on Wednesday and it seems like it could be a serious one.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will hold his weekly press conference at midday today ahead of the game on Merseyside and is likely to give an update on the ‘keeper’s injury.
Second choice ‘keeper Asmir Begovic looks set for a run in the team. The Bosnian arrived from Stoke this summer to replace Arsenal-bound Petr Cech and was brought in as back-up for Courtois.
His playing time was expected to be limited at Stamford Bridge this season.
However, Begovic had to come off the bench against Swansea in the opening game of the season, following Courtois’ sending-off in the 2-2 draw. He then started the 3-0 defeat at title rivals Manchester City with Courtois suspended.
The reigning champions are favourites to pick-up a win at Goodison Park, but the injury top Courtois will not have helped their preparations for the clash.
Is Asmir Begovic an able deputy for Thibaut Courtois?
I think he’s going to miss four months…
