Chelsea’s Eden Hazard was last night named PFA Player of the Year in a lavish ceremony at the Grosvenor Hotel in London.
The Belgium international beat off competition from the likes of Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Manchester United ‘keeper David de Gea to win the award.
The winger had earlier in the day helped Chelsea to a goalless draw at London rivals Arsenal, as the Blues moved a step closer to their first Premier League title since 2010.
Hazard has scored 18 goals this season, including 13 in the Premier League. The 24-year-old has also collected a creditable nine assists this season in the top-flight.
Hazard’s new found consistency and work-rate have led to his improvement in form. He has contributed either a goal or an assist in all-but two Premier League games this season, which has helped his team’s title charge.
Hazard has recently been linked with a big money move to La Liga giants Real Madrid, but the player himself has rejected claims that he is set to leave the London club in the near future.
Not only has he collected this individual award he looks set to claim his first league title with the Blues, so his future at Stamford Bridge looks bright.
At 24 years of age Hazard will only get better. More titles and individual awards are likely to follow, especially with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in his ear keeping him honest.
Eden Hazard is the worthy winner of the PFA Player of the Year. It seems all he has left to do is finish the season in style and collect his Premier League title winner’s medal in May.
