England boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed that inexperienced trio John Stones, Jonjo Shelvey and Jamie Vardy are set to start the Three Lions Euro 2016 qualifier in San Marino later today.

Talking at his press conference ahead of the game Hodgson said: “I can say that Jonjo Shelvey will start the game, as will John Stones and Jamie Vardy. I am not prepared to fill in the blanks.”

The trio are all inexperienced at international level, but have impressed for their club sides this season. Highly-rated Stones has won four caps for his national team, while Vardy and Shelvey have both won just one cap for their country.

Everton youngster Stones was subject of three failed bids from reigning champions Chelsea this summer and even handed in a transfer request at the Toffees.

However, he has handled the situation with professionalism and will see this game as a chance to impress for Hodgson’s side.

Shelvey has been impressive in Swansea’s good start to the Premier League campaign, with the Swans sitting fourth in the Premier League table. It has been a similar story for Vardy, with the Foxes third in the table.

The Three Lions are heavy favourites to claim victory and the trio will be looking to stake a claim for a regular spot in the squad with good performances against the minnows this evening.

Will the inexperienced trio impress for England?
