Didier Drogba makes big Impact on Montreal full debut

Former-Chelsea star Didier Drogba made a dream start for Montreal Impact, scoring a hat-trick in a 4-3 win over Chicago Fire

Veteran striker Didier Drogba made a dream start to his MLS career, as he scored a hat-trick on his full debut in Montreal Impact’s 4-3 victory over the Chicago Fire.

Drogba opened his scoring account on 27 minutes, after good work from former-West Ham star Nigel Reo-Coker. The Fire equalised through a spot-kick by Jeff Larentowicz, before Wandrille Lefevre headed the Canadian side back into the lead.

However, Chicago went ahead with goals from Brazilian Gilberto and Kennedy Igboananike. Drogba then turned on the style firing home two goals in six minutes.

The first of the brace arrived when Ignacio Piatti found Drogba with a quick free-kick and the Ivorian smashed home a powerful effort.

He then nodded home his hat-trick, after Fire ‘keeper Sean Johnson had initially done well to save his first effort. The treble was enough to earn his new side maximum points and the win leaves the Impact sixth in the Eastern conference.

His debut showed that there is still life in the old Drog yet and Drogba’s glittering career is far from over.

At 37-years-old Drogba looks to have started yet another chapter in his fantastic career and the Impact fans could be in for a treat for the rest of the MLS campaign.

Didier Drogba, unlike some of his fellow European superstars, has already made a big impact (pardon the pun) in his new surroundings.

The big striker looks at home in Montreal and if his debut is anything to go by Drogba could be very successful in Montreal.

Will Didier Drogba be the most influential foreign import in MLS this season?

  1. What a great match this was, Drogba seemed to get more and more comfortable as the game went on. Impact come to LA this weekend to face the Galaxy, this will be a game to watch.
