Everton hammered struggling Sunderland 6-2 at Goodison Park on Sunday, as Ivory Coast international Arouna Kone netted a hat-trick.
Sunderland hit the woodwork twice before Everton took the lead on 19 minutes Kone put Gerard Deulofeu through on goal and the young Spaniard kept his nerve to find the net with a low effort.
The Toffees doubled their lead on 31 minutes. Kone played a one-two with Romelu Lukaku, before the former fired home past Costel Pantilimon.
The visitors got back into the game on the stroke of half-time as Jermain Defoe latched onto a long ball to half-volley an effort past Tim Howard.
The Black Cats looked to be back in the game just after half-time as the north east side equalised. Steven Fletcher headed home from a Patrick van Aanholt cross.
However the Black Cats fell behind on 55 minutes, as Sebastien Coates poked a Gerard Deulofeu cross past his own ‘keeper.
On the hour mark Everton doubled their lead Deulofeu played a fantastic through ball to Lukaku, who kept his nerve round rounding Pantilimon and tapping home into an empty net.
Three minutes later and Kone had his second of the game. James McCarthy produced a superb reverse past the striker who flashed an effort past Pantilimon.
The Ivorian had a hat-trick on 76 minutes Lukaku produced a fantastic cross into the area and Kone jumped highest to head home.
The win moved the Toffees into eighth position in the Premier League table, while the Black Cats are second from bottom in the table.
