Manchester City have signed midfielder Fabian Delph from Aston Villa

Fabian Delph has finalised a £8million move to Manchester City from Aston Villa after completing a medical with the Citizens.

The move is a strange one as he recently turned down a move to City and confirmed his allegiance to the Villans. He has now performed a U-turn and is a City player.

The midfielder is reported to have signed a five-year contract with the Citizens and is expected to fly out to Australia to join his new teammates on tour.

Delph has been one of the more impressive players for Villa in the past few seasons as they have struggled in the Premier League. The 25-year-old’s form has made him a regular for Roy Hodgson’s England in the last year.

Manchester City were desperately in need of new signings and homegrown players as well, with their homegrown quota decimated during the summer.

Delph is the second English player to join City this summer after Raheem Sterling’s British-record £49million move from Liverpool.

Villa could use some of the cash received to sign France under-21 international Jordan Amavi from Ligue One Nice. The two clubs are reported to have agreed a fee for the highly-rated 21-year-old. Amavi has made 54 appearances for the French club.

Amavi’s club have travelled to Belgium for a friendly, but he is not with his teammates as a move to the Midland looms closer.

The signing of the youngster will be of little consolation to Villa fans who will feel that captain Fabian Delph has betrayed them by changing his mind over a move to City.

Will Fabian Delph get regular games at Manchester City in the new season?

  1. That was quite a U-turn by Delph.. Was surprised that he rejected Manchester City initially.. I think eventually the money made him turn his head..
