Manchester City have completed their third signing of the summer and it is yet another English player, as highly-rated young midfield star Patrick Roberts has joined the Citizens from Fulham for a fee in the region of £11million.

Roberts had come to the attention of other clubs courtesy of his performances for the England youth sides and has represented his country at every level up to under-19 level.

The 18-year-old was part of the England under-17 side who won the European Championships, having scored three goals in the tournament and finished as joint-top scorer.

The youngster has made just two top-flight appearances for the Cottagers, both from the substitute’s bench. Ironically his debut came against City in March 2014. His second appearance was against Everton. The youngster has just 44 minutes of Premier League experience.

Last season he saw more first team football, as he made 17 appearances in the Championship for the Cottagers, although he failed to find the net he is still regarded as a player with a bright future in the game.

City have broken their trend of signing foreign players this summer with their splurge of English signings, after signing England international’s Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph this summer.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side were in need of an injection of homegrown players to meet Premier League and Champions League rules.

The Citizens will want to be able to register a full 25 players for the Champions League, after previously being restricted due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

Will Patrick Roberts make it at Manchester City?
